È la 23esima edizione della rassegna di premi consegnati dai critici delle principali testate giornalistiche americane. Indicazioni sempre più chiare dopo i Golden Globe, viste le poche sorprese.

I premi per il cinema

Per il cinema, grandi conferme per "Tre manifesti a Ebbing, Missouri", premiato come "Miglior Cast" e "Miglior attore non protagonista" a Sam Rockwell e "Miglior Attrice" per Francis McDormand. "The Shape of Water" di Guillermo del Toro è il "Miglior Film". "Coco", nuovo capolavoro Disney, è il "Miglior film d'animazione", "Scappa" è il Miglior Horror". Confermato James Franco "Miglior attore in una commedia" per "The Disaster Artist", nonostante lo scandalo delle molestie sessuali.

I premi per la tv

Anche per la televisione, le linee guida già dettate dai Golden Globe sono state grosso modo rispettate. "The Handmaid's Tale" batte ancora tutti e si guadagna il premio come "Miglior serie drammatica", così come Sterling K. Brown prende la statuetta come miglior attore per "This is Us". Sempre grazie a "The Handmaid's Tale", Elizabeth Moss è la miglior attrice, così come Ann Down, "Miglior attrice non protagonista". David Harbour è il miglior attore non protagonista per "Stranger Things". "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", prodotta da Amazon, è la miglior serie comedy, premiata come miglior attrice comedy la protagonista Rachel Broshanan. "Big Little Lies" e la sua protagonista Nicole Kidman, premiati come "Miglior miniserie/film tv" e "Miglior attrice di miniserie/film tv".
